More Than a Café.
A Living Philosophy.
Say She Ate is where food, culture, and community come together. Rooted in intention and guided by purpose, everything we serve is designed to nourish both body and spirit.
Our story begins with a simple belief: food carries energy, and how it is made matters. Inspired by the tradition of prasadam and grounded in the legacy of Govinda’s, our fully vegan, onion-free, garlic-free cooking brings mindful preparation into a modern rhythm. It respects tradition while fitting naturally into everyday city life.
OUR INSPIRATION
Modern Mumbai
Meets Philly
Mumbai cuisine is an eclectic blend of pan-Indian flavours, where street food, home kitchens, and regional traditions come together in one fast-moving city. It is bold, layered, and deeply cultural.
At Say She Ate, we carry that same spirit into Philadelphia with spice-forward, conscious dishes rooted in tradition and reimagined through a contemporary, plant-based lens.
Our Philosophy
Food is Sacred
In our kitchen, food is more than physical. It reflects the care, intention, and attention with which it is prepared. Every dish at Say She Ate is made thoughtfully, using whole ingredients and freshly ground spices, purely vegan and naturally nourishing.
Inspired by the tradition of prasadam, food prepared in service and offered with gratitude, we see meals as a form of nourishment that supports both the body and the inner self.
Legacy & Location
Rooted in Devotion
Say She Ate operates in the same kitchen once home to Govinda’s Gourmet To Go, led for decades by Hari (Howard Brown), a pioneer of vegan plant-based and devotional cooking in Philadelphia.
Hari continues his service upstairs at Bhakti Garden, a meditation and wellness space above the café. His legacy lives on through our commitment to cooking that honors tradition while remaining relevant, approachable, and grounded in care.
Why We’re Here
Serving with Intention
Say She Ate exists to serve more than food. We serve care, culture, and connection. Every dish reflects a desire to nourish deeply and offer something meaningful, thoughtfully prepared and fully vegan.
Rooted in a devotional tradition, we aim to create a space that feels open and unforced. A place to pause without slowing down, reconnect without effort, and experience how good food can fit seamlessly into a well-lived day.
